Thanksgiving 2007

It's Thanksgiving Eve and I just finished watching a Nooma video on riches. In it, Rob Bell talked about how the U.S. makes up about 6% of the world's population and yet consumes 40% of the world's resources! We need to admit that we aren't only rich as a nation but as individuals. I know it's easy to not think of ourselves as rich, especially when we always notice that other people have more. But the truth is, in comparison with many in the world who don't have cars to drive, food to eat, and live off of $1/day, we are rich.

The problem is, when we don't admit we're rich, we remove ourselves from the responsibility of helping the poor. On this Thanksgiving season, remember how much God has blessed us, and in remembering this, remember also those that are in need!

1Tim. 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
